There's a spring show opening with a title longer than Shuffle Along, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, and it's called A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City (a.k.a. not Forum). Stars Beth Behrs, Erik Lochtefeld, Lisa Emery and Jacqueline Sydney recently stepped out to meet the press. Helmed by Trip Cullman and penned by I'm Gonna Pray For You So Hard scribe Halley Feiffer (see below), the play centers on a foul-mouthed 20-something comedian and a middle-aged man embroiled in a nasty divorce; the pair is brought together unexpectedly when their cancer-stricken mothers become roommates in the hospital. Together, the unlikely duo must negotiate some of life’s biggest challenges...while making some of the world’s most inappropriate jokes. Performances begin on May 19 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre with an official opening set for June 7.
